Local SEO and Google Business Profile

Local SEO checklist

Updated 21 Oct 2026 · Written and checked by the AI Marketing Master team, Shivah Web Tech

Short answer

A complete local SEO checklist has four parts: a verified, fully filled Google Business Profile; a website with clear location and service pages; a steady flow of genuine reviews with replies; and a monthly routine to keep details current and check results. Do the profile first, because it is free and shows directly on Google Maps.

Part 1: Google Business Profile

  • Profile claimed and verified, under a Google account the business owns (not a former employee's).
  • Business name exactly as on your signboard, with no extra keywords or city names stuffed in.
  • Primary category that describes what you are, plus a few accurate secondary categories.
  • Address shown if customers visit you; service area set if you travel to them.
  • Local phone number that is answered during opening hours.
  • Regular hours, plus special hours for festivals and holidays.
  • Website link pointing to the right page, ideally the branch's own location page.
  • Short, factual business description with your main services.
  • Services or products listed, with real photos of your premises, team and work.

Part 2: Your website

  • Name, address and phone written the same way as on Google, in text (not only in an image).
  • A page for each main service, and a page for each branch if you have more than one.
  • A map embed or clear directions on the contact or location page.
  • Page titles that mention the service and area naturally, for example Dental Implants in Mohali.
  • LocalBusiness structured data with your name, address, phone and hours.
  • Fast and readable on a phone, with a call button near the top.

Part 3: Reviews and reputation

  • A simple habit of asking every customer for a review, with your direct review link.
  • No incentives, no review gating and no reviews from staff or family.
  • A reply to each review within a few days, including the negative ones.
  • A plan for unfair reviews: report through Google, reply calmly, move the talk offline.

Part 4: Monthly habits

  • Post at least a few times a month on your profile: offers, events, updates.
  • Check for edits suggested by Google or the public and correct anything wrong.
  • Update hours ahead of festivals and public holidays.
  • Answer new questions on your profile, if the feature is shown for your business.
  • Compare this month's calls, website clicks and direction requests with last month.
  • Fix one weak point each month instead of trying to fix everything at once.

Things to skip

You do not need to pay for hundreds of directory listings, create a second profile at a virtual office, or post daily keyword-stuffed updates. These either waste money or risk your profile. Focus on accuracy, real customer feedback and a useful website.

Using AI Marketing Master to work through the list

Once the Google Business Profile is connected (this depends on Google's API approval for the platform), the completeness audit shows which profile items are missing. The website audit checks titles, headings, mobile basics and whether structured data is present. Posts and review replies are drafted for you to approve, and the monthly report compares your profile numbers with the month before. The app does not build directory citations.

What it does not do

  • The app does not build or audit citations.
  • Profile checks in the app need Google's API approval for the platform before they work.

Questions people ask

What should I do first?

Claim and complete your Google Business Profile. It costs nothing and appears on Google Maps straight away once verified.

Do I need a website for local SEO?

You can appear on the map without one, but a website gives Google more to understand and gives customers somewhere to check your services. A simple landing page is better than nothing.

How long until I see results?

Profile fixes can show within weeks. Reviews and website pages build up over months. No one can promise a position on the map.
