Not much to spend? Do these five things in this order

Updated 31 Oct 2026 · Published by the AI Marketing Master team, Shivah Web Tech

Short answer

When money is tight, spend time before money and work in a set order: complete your Google Business Profile, fix your website basics, ask for reviews, pick one social channel and make it easy for people to contact you. Use free tools, check your results monthly and stop anything that brings no enquiries.

Time is your real budget

With little money, the question is not what to buy. It is which tasks give the most back for the hours you can spare. Block out a fixed slot each week, even if it is only a couple of hours, and protect it like an appointment.

The order below matters. Each step supports the next one, so skipping ahead tends to waste effort.

Step one: your Google Business Profile

A Google Business Profile is free to use, and for a local business it is often the first thing a new customer sees. Claim it and fill it in completely.

  • Name, address, phone number and opening hours that are correct.
  • The right main category, plus a short list of the services you offer.
  • A few clear, recent photos of your place, your team and your work.
  • A reply to every review, good or bad.

Step two: website basics

  • A page for each main service, with a plain title and a clear heading.
  • Your phone number and a contact button near the top of every page.
  • A site that reads well on a phone and loads fast, with resized photos.
  • No website yet? A simple one-page site with your services and contact details is a fair start.

Step three: reviews

Ask every happy customer, soon after you have helped them, and send your review link in the same message. Make the ask part of how you finish a job. Reply to each review in a warm, short way. Never pay for reviews or write your own, because that can get your profile into trouble.

Step four: one social channel

Pick the one platform where your customers already spend time, and ignore the rest for now. Post at a pace you can keep going, even if that is only a few times a week. Reuse the same photos and short videos across your profile, your site and your posts. Five half-empty accounts look worse than one active account.

Step five: make contacting you easy

  • Put a tap-to-call number and a short enquiry form on your site.
  • Keep the form short. Name and a way to reply is often enough.
  • Answer enquiries quickly, even if the answer is just a time you will call back.
  • Keep a simple list of every enquiry and where it came from. A spreadsheet works.

Use free tools, then stop what does not help

Google Business Profile, Google Search Console, Google Analytics and a spreadsheet cost nothing and cover most needs. Pay for a tool only when it clearly saves you time.

Once a month, list what you did and how many enquiries each activity seemed to bring. Give a new channel a fair trial of a few months, then drop it if it brings nothing. Do not drop something after one bad week.

Where AI Marketing Master can save time

The app supports Google Business Profile posts and AI-drafted review replies that you approve before they go out, and its CRM keeps your enquiries with their source. You can follow this whole order without it, using free tools and a spreadsheet.

What it does not do

  • This order is a suggestion. A business that sells only online may skip step one, since a Google Business Profile suits businesses with a place or a service area.
  • No result or timetable is promised. How soon enquiries appear depends on your competition, your offer and your effort.
  • You do not need AI Marketing Master to follow this order. Connecting a Google Business Profile also needs Google's API approval for the platform.

Questions people ask

Should I run ads when I have very little money?

Usually fix your profile, site and follow-up first, because ads send people to those places and weak basics waste spend. If you do try ads, set a limit you can afford to lose, and look at it every week.

Is SEO worth it on a small budget?

The basics are mostly time: clear pages, correct business details and reviews. They tend to build slowly, so be patient and keep going.

How many social platforms should I use?

Start with one. Add a second only when the first one runs smoothly without stress.

How do I find the time?

Block a fixed slot each week and prepare posts and photos in one batch. The cheapest marketing is the kind you keep doing.

Which free tools should I set up first?

Google Business Profile first, then Search Console and Analytics for your website, and a spreadsheet to record enquiries.
