Choosing reel length: 15, 30, 45 or 60 seconds

Updated 21 Oct 2026 · Written and checked by the AI Marketing Master team, Shivah Web Tech

Short answer

Choose reel length by the job the reel must do. Use about 15 seconds for one striking visual or a single quick message, 30 seconds for a short how-to or before and after, 45 seconds for a story with three or four steps, and 60 seconds or more only when every second teaches or shows something new. Shorter is not always better; empty seconds are the real problem.

The rule underneath every length

Viewers decide in the first moments whether to keep watching, and they leave the moment a video stops giving them something. So the right length is the shortest one that still delivers the full message. A 60-second reel with no dull parts can hold attention better than a 20-second one that drags.

Platforms change their maximum lengths from time to time, so check each app for its current limit. The guidance below is about what works for viewers, not about the upper limit.

Around 15 seconds: one moment, one message

  • Good for: a new arrival on the shelf, a finished dish being plated, a quick offer reminder, a reaction shot.
  • Structure: a hook line, two or three clips, a closing line.
  • Watch out: no time for explanation. If the viewer needs context, it belongs in the post caption.

Around 30 seconds: show a small change

  • Good for: before and after, a three-step tip, unboxing an order, a quick shop tour.
  • Structure: hook, three to five short clips, a result, a call to action.
  • Watch out: avoid holding any single clip for more than about five seconds unless something is happening in it.

Around 45 seconds: tell a short story

  • Good for: how an order is made from start to finish, a customer question answered with a demo, a day-in-the-life clip from your team.
  • Structure: hook, the problem, three or four steps, the outcome, the next action.
  • Watch out: this is where reels start to sag. Re-watch and cut any clip that only repeats the previous one.

60 seconds and longer: only when it teaches

A minute or more works for clear explainers, recipes, simple tutorials and honest answers to common questions. It works badly for promotions. If the reel is mainly selling, shorten it.

The reel editor in AI Marketing Master can make reels of up to 90 seconds from up to 20 clips or photos, which covers all four lengths on this page. For anything longer, use a full video on YouTube and cut short clips from it.

A quick test before you decide

  • Say the message of the reel in one sentence. If you cannot, the reel is trying to do too much.
  • Count the clips that add something new. Multiply by about three to five seconds. That is roughly your natural length.
  • Watch it once with the sound off. If you are bored at any point, cut there.
  • Compare a short and a longer version of similar topics over a month, using the views and comments your platforms report.

What it does not do

  • The reel editor makes reels up to 90 seconds; longer videos need a different tool.
  • The app does not suggest an ideal length from your past results; you compare them yourself in your reports.

Questions people ask

Is a shorter reel always shown to more people?

Not reliably. Platforms look at how people respond, not length alone. A tight 45-second reel can do better than a padded 15-second one.

What is the longest reel I can make in AI Marketing Master?

Up to 90 seconds, made from up to 20 clips or photos.

Should the music decide the length?

No. Cut the reel to fit the message first, then fit the music. In our editor the music fades out at the end, so it does not stop abruptly.
