What AI can and cannot do in SEO

Updated 21 Oct 2026 · Written and checked by the AI Marketing Master team, Shivah Web Tech

Short answer

AI is good at fast, repetitive SEO work: drafting titles and descriptions, outlining pages, suggesting questions to answer, explaining audit findings and summarising numbers. It cannot know your real prices, experience or customers, cannot measure true search demand on its own, often states wrong facts confidently, and cannot earn reputation for you. Use AI to prepare work and a person to check and approve it.

Where AI genuinely saves time

  • Drafting page titles and meta descriptions for many pages at once.
  • Turning a rough idea into a page outline or content brief.
  • Listing questions customers might ask about a service, as a starting point.
  • Explaining a technical audit finding, such as a canonical tag problem, in plain words.
  • Summarising a month of Search Console numbers into a few sentences.
  • Writing a first draft that a person then corrects and adds real detail to.
  • Drafting text in another language for a fluent person to review.

Where AI falls short

  • It does not know your business. It cannot know that you stopped home visits last month or that your fees changed.
  • It invents with confidence. AI can state a wrong opening time, a fake statistic or an offer you never made, in perfectly fluent sentences.
  • It guesses at search demand. Without licensed data, AI keyword suggestions are ideas, not measured volumes.
  • It cannot provide real experience. Photos of your work, case details and your own opinions are what make a page worth reading.
  • It cannot earn reputation. Reviews, local press and genuine mentions come from serving customers well.
  • It does not know your legal limits. Health, finance and legal businesses often have rules about what they may claim.

What search engines say about AI content

Google's public guidance focuses on whether content is helpful and made for people, not on whether a tool helped write it. Content produced mainly to manipulate rankings, including large numbers of thin pages generated automatically, is treated as spam however it was made. So the question is not "AI or human?" but "is this page accurate, useful and worth reading?"

Common AI mistakes we watch for

  • Every page sounds the same, with phrases like "in today's fast-paced world".
  • Made-up numbers and claims that nobody approved.
  • Location pages that are copies with the town name swapped.
  • Titles that chase a keyword but no longer describe the page.
  • Translations that are grammatically fine but use the wrong everyday words.

A sensible split between AI and people

Let AI do the first pass: find the problems, draft the fixes and the text, and put it all in one queue. Let a person who knows the business decide: is this true, is it how we speak, does it help a customer? That person adds the real details AI cannot know, approves what is right, and rejects what is not. Afterwards, check that what went live is what was approved.

How AI Marketing Master puts this into practice

Specialist AI agents for SEO, technical SEO, content and other roles prepare work within their own limits and monthly budgets. AI may only use claims from your approved Business Profile. Every draft passes automatic quality checks, and a failed check blocks approval. A person approves every change before it goes live, and published content is read back from the site before it is marked Verified. Keyword suggestions are clearly ideas, because search volume numbers are not available in the app.

What it does not do

  • AI drafts can still contain mistakes, which is why every draft needs a person's approval.
  • No search volume, keyword difficulty, rank tracking or backlink data in the app.
  • Text and image AI come from outside providers, and customer content sent for generation is processed by them.

Questions people ask

Can AI do all my SEO for me?

No. AI can prepare a lot of the work, but a person needs to check facts, add real experience and approve changes.

Will Google penalise AI-written content?

Google's guidance targets unhelpful content made to manipulate rankings, however it is produced. Accurate, useful pages reviewed by a person are a different matter.

Can AI tell me which keywords to target?

It can suggest ideas based on how customers talk. It cannot tell you how many people search for them without a licensed data source.

Is AI SEO risky for a clinic or a law firm?

It can be if claims go live unchecked. Keep AI to drafting, use only approved claims, and have a qualified person approve every page.
