Adding captions to reels

Updated 21 Oct 2026 · Written and checked by the AI Marketing Master team, Shivah Web Tech

Short answer

In AI Marketing Master you add captions to a reel by typing the on-screen text for each clip, in English, Hindi or Punjabi. AI can suggest short, clear wording, but it does not listen to the video. When the reel renders, the text is burned into the MP4, so it shows on every platform, even where viewers have sound turned off.

Two kinds of caption, two different jobs

People use the word caption for two things. On-screen captions are words that appear inside the video. The post caption is the text under the reel in the feed. Both matter, and they do different jobs.

On-screen text carries the message while the video plays, often with sound off. The post caption adds detail, a call to action and the hashtags. The reel editor handles the first; the AI post writer helps with the second.

How captions work in the reel editor

  • Pick a clip or photo in your timeline and type the text that should show on it.
  • Choose the language font: English, Hindi (Devanagari) or Punjabi (Gurmukhi) are supported, so the letters render correctly.
  • Ask AI for a shorter or clearer version of a line, or for a hook for the first clip.
  • Render the reel. The text is burned into the video file, so it cannot be lost or switched off.
  • Read the finished reel once on your phone before you send it for approval.

What we do not do, and why it matters

The editor does not transcribe speech. There are no automatic captions made from what someone says, and no word-by-word animated subtitles. If a person speaks in your clip, you choose the key lines and type them.

This takes a little longer for talking videos. The upside is that every word on screen is a word you chose. Automatic captions often mishear names, prices and mixed Hindi-English speech, and those mistakes go out under your brand.

Writing on-screen text people can read

  • Keep each line under about eight words. Viewers get two or three seconds per clip.
  • One idea per clip. If you need two sentences, split them across two clips.
  • Put the most important words first: 'Free home delivery today' reads faster than 'Today we are offering free home delivery'.
  • Keep text away from the very top and bottom of a vertical video, where the app's buttons and the post caption sit.
  • Do not use text to promise something you cannot back up. AI suggestions only use offers in your approved Business Profile.

Captions in Hindi and Punjabi

Many local customers read Hindi or Punjabi more comfortably than English. You can type captions in either script, or mix a short English line with a local-language line in separate clips. Check spelling with a native speaker before you approve, because a wrong matra or vowel sign is very visible on a big screen.

After the captions: approval and publishing

The finished reel and its post caption go through quality checks and then to a person for approval, in the app, by email link or, once set up, in WhatsApp. Approved reels can be scheduled for a Facebook Page, an Instagram business account or YouTube.

What it does not do

  • No automatic transcription, speech captions or animated word-by-word subtitles.
  • Caption text is burned in; changing it means rendering the reel again.
  • On-screen text fonts cover English, Hindi and Punjabi only.

Questions people ask

Can the app make captions from the audio automatically?

No. There is no transcription or speech-to-text. You type the on-screen captions; AI can help with wording.

Can viewers switch my captions off?

No. The text is burned into the video, so it always shows. That also means you cannot edit it after rendering without making the reel again.

Which languages can I use for on-screen text?

English, Hindi and Punjabi fonts are available in the reel editor.

Are burned-in captions good for accessibility?

They help people who watch with sound off or who are hard of hearing. For full accessibility, also describe the video in the post caption.
